Carte Blanche Designs by Melissa is a full-service interior design firm that brings thoughtful, elevated, and highly personalized interiors to life. In addition to full-scale residential design, the firm offers a curated collection of vintage and antique collectibles, custom artwork, and white-label design services for other firms in need of expert outsourcing support. True to its name, Carte Blanche Designs reflects the belief that a home should be a place where clients feel entirely free to express themselves — their personality, travels, and passions — through beautifully layered and intentional spaces.
Founded by Melissa Goldblatt, Carte Blanche Designs is rooted in Melissa’s lifelong love of design. From an early age, she was drawn to the details that make a space feel both timeless and personal. With a particular appreciation for historic architecture and traditional design elements, Melissa anchors her projects in enduring style while seamlessly integrating her clients’ stories and lifestyles into each room.
Melissa earned her degree in Interior Design from the University of Alabama’s School of Human Environmental Sciences and began working in the design industry while still a student. Her early hands-on experience across a variety of roles shaped her deep understanding of the ergonomics of design — the importance of how a space functions, not just how it looks. Her philosophy emphasizes that well-designed interiors must serve both purpose and beauty, optimizing the way people live within their homes.
Over the course of her career, Melissa has worked on a wide array of projects, spanning various styles, scopes, and locations — including California, New York, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and even France. Her portfolio includes everything from new construction and historic renovations to light refreshes, and she has contributed to every phase of the design process. Having worked with multiple high-end firms and diverse design methodologies, Melissa brings a uniquely flexible and collaborative approach to every engagement. Her decade of experience has led her to understanding that no two projects (or clients) are the same, and her adaptability ensures a smooth and efficient process from concept to completion.
After years of contributing to prestigious firms in Houston, Melissa launched Carte Blanche Designs as a way to bring her creative vision, project management expertise, and collaborative spirit directly to clients and fellow designers. In addition to working with homeowners, she provides contract design support to other firms that may not have the capacity to hire a full-time team member but still require experienced assistance. From space planning to installations, Melissa is passionate about working behind the scenes or center stage — wherever she is needed — to help bring extraordinary spaces to life. When working with Melissa there is no job too big or too small, no style too crazy or too modern – it’s “carte blanche”.
